Outline of CABG

This diagram shows plan of arterial and vanous graft. Right and left internal mammary arteries are used to bypass arteries on front of the heart. Radial arteries or sapherious veins can be joined to them for supplying sides and back of the heart. Use of saphenous vein is now restricted to emergency cases and older patients only. Arterial grafts are preferred due to their longer patency i.e. upto 20 years 90% of internal mammary graft may remain patent. Other arteries used for grafting are radial, gastro opiploic and inferior epigantric areries. Most popular are left internal mammary and radial artery from non-dominant hand.
